On October 13, 1999 I was lucky enough to take Miss Sarah Korthals out for our first date. The movie: An Ideal Husband, playing at the Village, which has since become an Alamo Drafthouse Cinema (about the only reason why I am not livid about the loss of the old theater). We were the only people in the entire theater. So, we sat in the isle, as it was the center-most spot in the theater, for the entire film. After we drove back to her place, we ambled over to the Dog and Duck to enjoy a couple of pints and learn more about each other. By no means was I a sterling partner for conversation, as I didn’t make it a habit to open up to people. But, for some reason she thought enough of me to agree to a second date, and the rest, as they say, is history. I’m much luckier than I have any right to be.
