As always, Ambrose does a great job of teaching while telling a story. Though I have never been very interested in “Cowboys and Indians”, this dual-biography has ensnared me. I must admit that my knowledge of American history in the period between the end of the Civil War and the beginning of World War I is much lighter than it should be. This is the first book I’m reading to change that fact.

The Sagas of Icelanders
This is a compendium of the sagas of the Norse. This is one of those few books that I am happy to have received by mistake (okay okay, I forgot to send back one of those book club mailers). It is a very different point of view for me. Though I have always thought vikings were interesting, I’ve had no historical or cultural perspective on their lives. This book lays out many of their beliefs and morality as the stories unfold.
